Attending as many home births as our independent midwives have, you get a feel for what works and what just gets in the way. We have sourced these products for Valerie & her mums.

Floor sheet

Unlike plastic sheeting which can be torn easily buy moving feet or tarpaulins that make a lot of rustling noise as you move about, which is not very conducive to the calm quiet environment mother desire. this floor sheeting is made from a no noise no tear PVC, It is heavy enough to stay where you put it and slightly textured so as to prevent mum slipping over. Sue says - 'I have worked with a lot of different floor coverings in my time but this is the best in both quality and value for money I have found'

Super absorbent bed pads

a pack of 12 super absorbent bed pads, well we say bed they are used on floors, sofa's in fact anywhere necessary! Ideal too for use after baby is born on chairs & Beds in case of a leak.

Natracare new mother pads

2 packs of the Natracare new mother pads (20 pads in total) these are not as neat as the ones you usually use for your period but the flow after your baby is born is not the same either - for the first few days at least you will be grateful of something this big and absorbent.

Lip Balm

A much overlooked necessity. Your lips get very, very dry in labour.

Straws

Labour can last quite a few hours and is often likened to running a marathon, you could not run a marathon if you were dehydrated and the same with labour. You don’t want to be thinking about drinking so these straws are great to help mums take little sips to keep her fluids up. Pack of 3 bendy straws

Lavender Oil

1 x 5 ml Lavender oil use in a burner to help relax or a couple of drops in your bath after birth to aid post partum healing

Spritz bottle

Small and compact 50ml spritz bottle – mix your own or add a drop or two of the lavender oil for a cooling and refreshing spray (avoid eyes)

Wheatgerm Oil

Helps prepare your perineum for birth. Nothing fancy here but a good old fashioned oil that works. Massage your perineum with this oil as often as possible
